The Healthy Living Programme was set up to get involved with Scottish independent retailers, assisting and supporting them to offer healthier choices to local customers. Across the whole of Scotland, they are doing their best to achieve a healthier nation for Scotland’s future with young school kids at the heart of everything they do. The team at Healthy Living Programme work closely with retailers to promote a healthier lifestyle throughout their stores and to help develop their point of sale. And that’s where Minto came in. We were honoured to be recruited to design, brand, print and develop their presence both in store and online through their socials and website.
After Minto came on board to work with Healthy Living Programme, we quickly came to establish the importance of developing a better point of sale. It was all about catching the eye of the customer so they would understand the message and start their journey to a healthier lifestyle. Marketing and branding 101. As always, Minto knew what to do. But it wasn’t just the in-person point of sale or the overall brand that needed developed, the Healthy Living Programme needed a stronger digital presence. Between Minto and their partners at Digital Alchemy, they had all bases covered between them.
After working closely with management at Healthy Living Programme, we got a deeper understanding of the core aims of the programme - striving towards the betterment of the country’s health through education and access for everyone. Seeing the importance of this message and the work they were looking to do, Minto got to work straight away.
Years of experience meant we knew what to do when it came to catching the eye of customers in store. Display cases for fruit; point of sale clip strips; recipe cards to take home with you. All of this and even more were designed, sourced and printed by Minto, ready to be rolled out to all the complying retailers who were working with the programme. Customers quickly took to the new stands and designs; their attention was caught, and they were ready to start their journey to a healthier lifestyle. But something was missing, we needed something more – or someone….
Every great brand has a mascot. From Mickey Mouse, to Alexander the Meerkat. Everyone loves an identifiable character to champion an organisation and reflect the brand, capturing the hearts and attention of the outside public. And for the Healthy Living Programme, a fun initiative with space to be creative, who’s core audience included school kids, a mascot was what was needed to really take things to the next level. So, meet Welby. The perfect wellbeing mascot, in the form of a banana. Unsurprisingly, Welby was a hit. Drawn up and designed by Minto, the new mascot was quickly added onto bags, prints, recipe cards, social posts, the lot. We even created a top banana award bust featuring Welby that was to be given schools and shops that took part in the programme.
