But what is the Preston Bowl Charity Golf Event all about?

Location secured, date set, charity selected and teams booked. Here’s all you need to know about the inaugural Preston Bowl Charity Golf Event 2016.

Earlier this year we proudly announced that the date has been set for the inaugural Preston Bowl Charity Golf event in aid of Mrs Murray's Home for Stray Dogs and Cats. Alongside longstanding supporters of this local charity Peterkins Solicitors, the event will be held at Meldrum House Country Hotel & Golf Course on the 28/07/2016 and sold out in record time with 24 bookings.

But what is the Preston Bowl Charity Golf Event all about?

Our Managing Director Bob Minto tells us how and why the Preston Bowl Charity Golf event, in aid of Mrs Murray's Cat and Dog Home, came about...

Jackie and I were staying with friends at Preston Hall in Aylesford Kent the first week in December 2015. During dinner we heard a yelp coming from the back garden. On investigation we found that someone had thrown a dog over the 7ft high fence into the garden!

The poor wee guy was terrified, starved, flea ridden and covered in mange etc as you can see from the photo on the above. After about 40 minutes of trying to gain his trust, he was confident enough to be coaxed into the garage and out of the pouring rain.

Eventually, after many phone calls to various animal welfare agencies we managed to get a response from a local animal sanctuary who were more than happy to help. At 11.30pm on a very wet December night, Steve from Viking Oak boarding kennels and animal sanctuary arrived.

By then Jackie had named him Preston and had built up a pretty strong bond with the wee guy, it was obvious that she was going to be more than just a Good Samaritan!

A tearful Jackie asked Steve “so what happens now?”.

He explained that he was only about 7 months old and they would get him checked over by the Vet in the morning and start the many treatments he needed to make him better, then he would go onto Viking Oak website for adoption.......... Well, the rest is history!

We subsequently drove over 1400 miles to pick him up, Preston arrived in his new forever home on 30th December and is now very much a part of the Minto family.

My association with Peterkins goes back many years. With knowledge about their relationship and regular sponsorship of Mrs Murray’s Cat and Dog home in Aberdeen, I told them the story of Preston over a lunch meeting and the idea of having a charity golf day in Aid of Mrs Murray’s was born.

The amazing lifesaving work that they and other animal sanctuary/homes do and the difference they make to hundreds of dogs just like Preston is phenomenal. However, they rely solely on donations and the generosity of people like you and me. We anticipate a donation in the region of £5000 to go directly to Mrs Murray’s charity and we would also like to donate £500 to Viking Oak in Kent as wee thank you from Preston!

Keep your eyes peeled for all the latest updates on the event and of course discover who will be the first to get their hands on the Preston Bowl trophy!
